Draw out and design a tessellation step by step. Try to make a design that you can create an object out of/plan out how you will design the final shape that your tessellation makes.

Step by Step Instructions to Trace the Tessellation

1. Get a large piece of drawing paper and a pencil (you can use a sharpie if you are careful). Place the tessellation you created anywhere on the paper. You may start in the middle or in the center, it's your choice. Hold the tessellation perfectly still and trace around the entire shape.

2. Once the shape has been traced, remove the pattern piece and slide it right, left, up or down. The tessellation you made and the shaped that you traced should fit together like a puzzle. Once the tessellation is beside of the one you already traced, you will hold it down and trace it again.

3. You will continue this process. Keep moving the piece up, down, left and right and tracing it. Make sure you are careful and are only tracing it when it fits like a puzzle into the next space. Even if the piece does not fit all the way on the page it doesn't matter. You have to trace it everywhere that it fits together on the paper... even if that means half of it is off the page.

4. Once you have completely finished tracing your tessellation, your paper should be completely full of the pattern you created. You may trace these lines in sharpie if you would like. The next step will be to decide how you want to design your tessellation.
Designing your Tessellation
We will use colored pencil to color tessellations. You will have a few different options in the way that you choose to color your tessellation.
Options for completing the design:
Options for completing the design:
- Create patterns in each piece
- Create an object or drawing in each piece
- Create a background picture using the entire paper
YOU CANNOT JUST COLOR IN EACH PIECE!!!!!!
