Shoes- introductory project

Picture
Medias to choose from include:
  • Graphite
  • Charcoal
  • Colored pencil

Project Overview

Create an artwork that includes shoe(s) as the main theme. Choose one of the mediums above to create the artwork. The artwork must fill the page AND have a well-planned background.

Things to consider:

Picture

Proportion

Change up the sizing of the shoe on the page. Use the size to make the shoe look more dramatic and keep the viewers eye moving.
Picture

Action

Giving the shoe a purpose will make it appear more interesting to the viewer. Putting the shoe in action can create drama.
Picture

Medium

Choose a medium based on your strengths. Try using a medium you feel confident with to best show your artistic ability.
Picture

Character

Give the shoe a human-like or animal quality. This will help determine the mood and can make the drawing more dynamic and interesting.
Picture

Perspective

Changing the perspective can really bring a drawing to life. This can also change up the size of the object and give it a life-like quality.

Advice:

  • Show your strengths, choose a medium and proportion that you know you can be successful with.
  • Be strategic with the medium you choose, it needs to be one that you know a few techniques for so that you can use it effectively.
  • The shoe you choose should be in great detail. (Laces, fabric, stitching, etc.) TRY to show the different textures of the shoe/shoes you draw.
  • Make sure depending on the medium you choose that your edges are soft and hard where they need to be. Example: the ballet shoes shown below.
